I took an antibiotic three weeks ago for bacterial vaginosis. The two weeks later they called me and said I had an std chlamydia. I posted about that unlikelyhood in another thread. I took and antibiotic for that and so did my dh. Now I am noticing the fishy odor again. How can that be? Everything I read about says it always means infection. I am perplexed not. Any help from anyone here?
Completely agree with Herbs Girl - probiotics are a must. If you do need to take something to kill the bad bacteria, too, don't take them at the same time as the probiotics - they will kill good bacteria as well as bad. :-) If I remember correctly, you aren't supposed to take probiotics within at least 3 hours of taking anything that would kill bacteria.
I have had great success with bio-k (it is a liquid probiotic). What I noticed was that if I used it topically, it really helped eliminate the odor rather quickly. However, you need to take it internally on a regular basis to get your gut bacteria back where it should be. Then keep taking either the bio-k or some form of probiotics on a regular basis to maintain healthy bacteria. I can really tell a difference when I forget to take it on a regular basis. The more bio-k you can stomach on a regular basis, the faster the change. You will probably have to build up to it. Bacterial die off can cause symptoms that make you feel sick. There is a lot of information on the yeast/candida threads that would help you I'm sure. I was battling yeast, but bacterial vaginosis would need the same treatment. They're both an overrun of "bad" bacteria that puts the good bacteria way out of balance.
That being said, bio-k is kind of expensive ($3-$4 a 3.5 oz bottle). I make my own yogurt with it now and it is very economical for us. I just put it in smoothies or eat it by itself sweetened with stevia and vanilla. One bottle will make a gallon of yogurt.
Here is a post that I linked to other posts on the bio-k. I have more comments on it out there, too. You could search bio-k and see what comes up. I don't have time to write any more right now, but if you have any other questions, I will be happy to answer them. I really love this stuff and have been using it for about a year now. I really think it would be a help to you.
