Reocurring vag. odor
« on: May 24, 2010, 02:20:42 AM »
I took an antibiotic three weeks ago for bacterial vaginosis.  The two weeks later they called me and said I had an std chlamydia.  I posted about that unlikelyhood in another thread.  I took and antibiotic for that and so did my dh.  Now I am noticing the fishy odor again.  How can that be?  Everything I read about says it always means infection.  I am perplexed not.  Any help from anyone here?

I had many reoccurring problems with Bacterial Vaginosis, until I started Probiotics and kefir, and I havent had much trouble scine!  The doctors meds for BV are usually temporary!

The best treatment for BV is high dose probiotics orally, and if you had a really have a bad case, then maybe something to kill the bad bugs too.  The probiotis need to be taken for an extended amount of time.

L. Reuteri and  Lactibacallis Rhamnosus are proven to get rid of BV..

Femdopholis has went through clinical studies for BV, and they have proven that you can insert 1 Femdopholis vaginally morning and evening for 5 days and it says they can actually cure BV.
Videos here...all about it...chapter 8 is good!

There is a testemonial here that says a lady got rid of a 6 month case of BV taking NOW allibiotic in the morning and 6 hours later taking NOW Probiotic 50 billion...

Completely agree with Herbs Girl - probiotics are a must.  If you do need to take something to kill the bad bacteria, too, don't take them at the same time as the probiotics - they will kill good bacteria as well as bad.  :-)  If I remember correctly, you aren't supposed to take probiotics within at least 3 hours of taking anything that would kill bacteria.

I have had great success with bio-k (it is a liquid probiotic).  What I noticed was that if I used it topically, it really helped eliminate the odor rather quickly.  However, you need to take it internally on a regular basis to get your gut bacteria back where it should be.  Then keep taking either the bio-k or some form of probiotics on a regular basis to maintain healthy bacteria.  I can really tell a difference when I forget to take it on a regular basis.  The more bio-k you can stomach on a regular basis, the faster the change.  You will probably have to build up to it.  Bacterial die off can cause symptoms that make you feel sick.  There is a lot of information on the yeast/candida threads that would help you I'm sure.  I was battling yeast, but bacterial vaginosis would need the same treatment.  They're both an overrun of "bad" bacteria that puts the good bacteria way out of balance.

That being said, bio-k is kind of expensive ($3-$4 a 3.5 oz bottle).  I make my own yogurt with it now and it is very economical for us.  I just put it in smoothies or eat it by itself sweetened with stevia and vanilla.  One bottle will make a gallon of yogurt.

Here is a post that I linked to other posts on the bio-k.  I have more comments on it out there, too.  You could search bio-k and see what comes up.  I don't have time to write any more right now, but if you have any other questions, I will be happy to answer them.  I really love this stuff and have been using it for about a year now.  I really think it would be a help to you.

I ended up at the dr yesterday and told them my odor symptoms and they checked my cells under a microscope and told me they didn't see anything bad there.  They sent off a culture and I will know more on Friday.  I am frustrated because it is not normal to have that fish odor or any other odor.  You would think I would test positive if there was an infection there.  They will repeat the chlamydia test in two weeks because it was too early after I had taken the meds to re test.  The dr said it is possible that the odor is a die off of the chlamydia.  I am pretty upset to have these symptoms but nothing show up.  I will try the probiotics and am thinking of taking garlic allicin pills amd oregeno.

bakermom, fishy oder is a very classic and normal symptom of Bacterial vaginosis.  I went weeks and tried several medications before I was diagnosed with BV.  I have tried Tummy tuneup (the NOW Gr8dopholis) probiotic and it did not take care of it.   High doses I mean like  50-80 billion I took for a little BIT of Florajen on an empty stomach... THEN gradually went down.  The Fem-dopholis is a strain especially for the vagina, so you would only need 1-2 capsules per day of that.   Natures Way makes a Reuteri in 3-4 different forms/packages that is cheaper than Fem-dopholis.

So very discouraged.  I got the results and they are clear but now my cycle is over and I have spotted now for the last two days.  Now the discharge is smelly again and yellowish.  Why wouldn't they be able to detect anything?  I am hoping to order some of the probiotics tomorrow.

i ditto the BV and probiotics.  try this first and be diligent with treatment.  other options

http://bulkherbstore.blogspot.com/2010/01/treating-vaginal-yeast-naturally.html

(this article was written for yeast, but will work--in most cases--for bacterial infections as well)

BUT if you treat with these for several days or even a couple of weeks and see no reprieve, consider ovarian cysts.  these can give some really weird symptoms.  (been there, done that.)

anyway, for my cysts i eliminated all hormone copycats (especially disposable sanitary products) and that took care of it for me.

This is a great article for recurrent yeast infections! I'm going to give it a try...I hope it works. Been fighting this for at least 3 yrs off and on! I am so tired of it! >:(
