4 wk old with cold/fever
« on: October 20, 2011, 09:34:05 PM »
My 4 wk old baby has caught the cold that is going around our house. He sounds congested up in his sinuses and gets choked up and gags at times but seems to be able to breathe through his nose fine and I can't suction anything out. His fever is 99. I don't know if he's too young for garlic oil on his skin, so I haven't done this yet. Does anyone know? I'm breastfeeding so I'm taking lots of vitamin c &  d3. What else can I do and when should I take him to Dr?

You can squirt breastmilk into his nose.  That helps clear things out a little, and it won't hurt him.  You can also do a garlic poultice on the skin.  Just be sure to move it frequently (every 10 or 15 minutes) so it doesn't irritate the skin.  It sounds like he is not in any danger.  I suppose he is getting over the cold by now?
