familial hereditary tremor
« on: March 11, 2011, 07:02:18 AM »
Tremor of the hands, and head tremors in some severe cases, runs strongly in my family.  In the last year my hands have started shaking uncontrollably when I try to do anything with them.  It is not severe, but quite annoying at times.  Does anyone know of any herbal remedies that I could try?  Thanks!

Here is what I found online:

Carefully selected ingredients such as Stramonium, Mag. phos., Agaricus muscarius and Tarentula can help to calm the nervous system and improve the stability of muscular function (There is a homeopathic product called TremorSoothe which combines these ingredients). In addition, herbs such as Melissa officinalis (Lemon Balm), Lavandula augustifolia (Lavender) and Passiflora incarnata (Passion Flower) support the health of the nervous system and help to maintain a calm, balanced mood.

In Chinese Traditional Herbal Medicine: Materia Medica and Herbal Resource, author Lesley Tierra explains that Gambir is an herb ideal for treating convulsions and tremors. Gambir is beneficial for the heart, the liver and the pericardium. The herb works as a blood tonifier as well as an antispasmodic agent. Adults can consume a daily dosage of Gambir at 3 g to 10 g. If consuming Gambir in powder form, 0.9 g to 1.5 g daily is all that is required to gain the herb's antispasmodic effects.

In Planetary Herbology, Michael Tierra explains that Lady's Slipper is an antispasmodic herb appropriate for the treatment of tremors. Lady's Slipper is commonly used to treat epilepsy, tremors, restlessness and the herb is a naturally calming herb. A decoction of the herb can be consumed at a dosage of 3 g to 9 g brewed in a tea 3 to 4 times daily. Lady Slipper tincture can also be consumed at a dosage of 10 to 30 drops 3 to 4 times a day for tremor relief.

In Medical Botany: Plants Effecting Human Health, authors Robert Eglesfelde Griffith and Memory P. F. Elvin-Lewis assert that Arnica is a traditional homeopathic remedy for palsy and tremors. Arnica, when consumed, has positive effects on your nervous system. The treatment is generally offered as an infusion by diluting the treatment in water. Arnica can be consumed by mixing 3 pellets of Arnica 30c in 500 milliliters of water in a bottle. Before consumption, the bottle must be shaken, and the mixture is sipped. A teaspoon of the mixture is consumed 3 times a day for tremor relief.

In Prescription for Natural Cures, authors James Balch and Mark Stengler assert that Argentum nitricum is a homeopathic treatment for hand tremors when writing and for treating conditions involving uncoordinated movements. Argentum nitricum 30c can be consumed in pill form which can be chewed one time daily. You should continue to use this remedy for a period of thirty days to gain maximum benefit.
