Amish Spice Cookies from The Vision
« on: October 19, 2009, 05:56:16 AM »
Has anyone tried the Amish Spice Cookies from The Vision? I am not sure
what sorghum(syrup) is and what would be a replacement for it if any.
Can I use maple syrup? Or molasses? Or get sorghum from somewhere?
Thanks!

I haven't tried the recipe, Lizzy, but they do sound good.  If you don't have any access to sorghum, try substituting with molasses, a close second!  ;)

Moooollasses will work!   :D  You have to try sorghum though!  Here is a family owned business I used to work for and buy from. I know their product will not have preservatives nor be diluted with corn syrup.http://muddypondsorghum.com/

Here is a welltellme thread where sorghum is mentioned. Also tips on buying and using the different varieties of molasses.

Thanks to both of you. I think I will try the molasses because I have it
and if I order the sorghum, it will make this batch of cookies really
expensive. So if molasses will work, molasses it will be  ::)
I will post after I make them and let you know how they turned out.

Unless you are making cookies for a large crowd...I would suggest a 1/2 batch to begin with.  This recipe will feed a crowd.  It is very good though!  I ended up baking part, and then rolling the rest of the dough into balls and freezing it for later.

Can you type out the recipe for this?  I haven't been able to read the book yet.
