I just got this recipe today. I liked it because it did not use powdered milk, but is powdered buttermilk better? Anyone know? I'm wondering if we should just make it fresh and not be dependent on a mix. Anyway, here is the recipe:
Spiced Hot Cocoa
2 cups dark, unsweetened dutch cocoa powder
1 cup sweet buttermilk powder
1 cup organic brown sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp allspice
1/4 tsp ground cloves
Molasses (optional)
Blend this mixture well and add 2 to 3 TB to a mug of
boiling water. Drizzle just a tad of blackstrap molasses
and mix well with your spoon. You can add more or less of
the buttermilk and brown sugar to suit your taste, but this
gives you the general idea. Remember that with any recipe,
you should allow for your own tastes to dictate how much
you add of special seasonings or certain ingredients.
Don't be afraid to experiment!
What else can you do with this hot cocoa other than drink
it? Well, how about soaking your tired feet in it? I know
it sounds strange, but cocoa is full of antioxidants and
brown sugar is skin softening. The milk is also very
softening and nourishing to the skin. The various spices
contain anti-fungal properties, too! Give those feet of
yours a treat and make sure you pour yourself a mug to sip
on while you soak! When your done, slather on a thick
homemade balm or salve and pull on some warm, wool socks!
How do you like that extra use of Hot Cocoa Mix? I have never heard of that advice!
