Chestnuts recipes
« on: November 12, 2008, 06:55:28 AM »
Someone gave me a whole bunch of chestnuts -and I don't know what to do with them ! I heard about making jam with them, but I don't know how. I've eaten them grilled as a snack, but don't know how to prepare them that way either. Any recipes or ideas ?

Chrysalyde, I am sorry I don't have any suggestions for you , but I do have a chestnut question...
Monday, my 84 y/o grandma mentioned that she missed having Chestnut dressing with thanksgiving dinner.  She said that it was one of her mother's specialties, so, I have been looking for a recipe for chestnut dressing.
Also, are chestnuts something you can buy in the grocery store?  I've never seen one, so I don't know what I am looking for! ;D

Found this site that has recipes for chestnuts.
http://www.greenfootsteps.com/roasting-chestnuts.html

another one
http://lowfatcooking.about.com/od/christmas/a/chestnuts1204.htm

this one has an OLD FASHIONED CHESTNUT STUFFING.  Are you wanting dressins as in stuffing that was not stuffed in the bird or dressing as in a salad type dressing?

one more

Hope this helps. :)

Thank-you so much!  That is exactly what I was looking for, and it seems pretty easy too!  Our family has always called turkey dressing "dressing" instead of "stuffing"  :D!
Now...where can I find chestnuts...

I've never purchased chestnuts, but I think they come out at holiday time when they have the bins of nuts you can bag.
