I thought about that too, that could play a part I think, but I think it's more to do with the way she views life, etc.

There are physical reasons she might be depressed.

How are her sleep patterns? Difficulty going to sleep, staying asleep, or not remembering dreams?

diet?

Definitely large doses of cod liver oil help many people regardless of the reasons they are depressed - from hormonal to stress. We use Carlson's brand- lemon flavored.

I hate to suggest this....but I think you should try to find out if there was a se*ual encounter or other incident. For awhile I worked with girls this age...too often  >:( when we got to the bottom of things it was abuse or harassment of a se*ual nature that triggered the depression and loss of interest in living. It doesn't have to have been with a boy/man or actual personal assault as occasionally a sensitive, religiously trained teenager may not know how to deal with other inappropriate exposure. I urge you to take time to do it carefully....
