Wonderful Scented Laundry Sachet
« on: August 13, 2006, 04:08:48 AM »
I've been making my own laundry soap, and really missed the scent of my old detergent, as I love scented laundry (the EO I was adding wasn't coming through the finished laundry). I read a tip in a book for a drier sachet, and I love it! Simply put ~1/2 c. dried lavender buds in a cheesecloth sachet (mine is closed with a twisty tie) and toss in the drier with your clothes. It lasts several/many loads before you change the lavender, doesn't smell too flowery (which my hubby wouldn't like), and makes things smell fresh and clean! Mmmmm!

Essential oils are volatile. Heat will make the smell vanish. Hot water wash or dryer. I speak in short sentences.

I dry on low, but it comes through on the laundry wonderfully! Works for me.

That's ok! I thought you meant the sachet would be fried by the heat. I agree about the EO in the soap.

Are there any other scents that you can make.  Last time I smelt lavendar it smelt like a really bad colonge.  I have a sesitive sniffer.  Where would I get the dried lavendar buds if I get the courage to try it?  Can you get the cheescloth at Wal-Mart?  I know I must sound stupic to you, but there are some things I just don't know about.

Yes, they keep it in the craft section by sewing and knitting supplies.

thanks. I know that area of the store pretty well.  I'm surprised I didn't know that's where the cheeseclothe was found.

I bought my lavender buds bulk at the Health Food Store. You can also buy them online from herbs supply stores. I found my cheesecloth by the canning supplies... I guess you could ask if you can't find it.
