Using Alleve long-term
« on: December 28, 2007, 01:21:20 PM »
Do any of you know the safety risks of taking Alleve long-term?  My DH has been on it for about 2 mos for post vasectomy issues and at his appointment with a Urologist today, she said that there is basically nothing to do about it and just continue taking Alleve.  She said sometimes you can have post-vas pain for a couple years!
Naturally, he's not thrilled about the pain OR having to commit to taking a pain killer/anti-inflammatory every day.

When he takes it, all is well, but he notices some pain and swelling on one side when he stops so it is working, but we are both just concerned about the long-term effects of this drug.

Also, does anyone know of a natural anti-inflammatory/pain-killer that would be safer?

Thanks!!
Andrea

Alleve is Naproxyn which is a NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug).  Long term use can upset the balance in the gut, causing yeast to thrive and leaky gut syndrome to occur.

I would look into taking Essential Fatty Acids for anti-inflammatory purposes and after two months of using the Aleve he may need to consider treating for yeast and/or leaky gut syndrome.

Also, I understand that post-op vasectomy problems usually stem from scar tissue.  Your husband might consider taking aloe vera in higher doses to help heal the scar tissue.

If it's something that winds up being long-term, some of our members have told of their husbands having reversals to cure the problem and eventually alleviate the pain.

Thanks for the info HB!
Is he supposed to take the Aloe Vera internally for the scar tissue?
