Chai Tea
« on: August 30, 2007, 03:50:20 PM »
Do any of you ladies make your own chai tea? I have seen recipes for it on the net but they are all so different. Do any of you have one you like? Post your recipes here.

Also, with all those spices, it MUST have some healthy/beneficial properties. Anyone know what they are?

That's funny- i was thinking the same thing today...well yesterday too. I had a yummy one at Starbucks and then i looked at the Pacific? brand at the store but didn't want to spend the money when i had most of the ingredients...now i can't remember the ingredients :-\.

the only thing i can think of that isn't good though is that the cream/milk in it supposedly cancels out the antioxidant benefits of the black tea...so i recently read in Parade Magazine.

oh well...i'll brainstorm with you and maybe together we can come up with the PERFECT home Chai!! sound good?!?

Wow, Hedy

I am impressed with all of the 5 star reviews over at @llrec#pes.com!  I love that site, too!

Hope to try your recipe soon :)

I'm pretty sure the key ingredient is cardamom.  I was able to pick this flavor out of my store bought stuff.  Of course the cinnamon and nutmeg are pretty important too, but the cardamom is the ingredient that gives it the slight pepper flavor.  ;D

Can I use cardamom pods (have those)? or does it have to be a ground spice?

You could throw in the whole pod or open it up and dump in the seeds.  I am with HB, a good classic chai should have cardamom.  ;)
