: All About Bag Balm
: its_me518 January 29, 2009, 08:01:47 AM
I wanted to know about bag balm. I have it on hand, and want to know the many things people use it for. I know there is a lot of scattered uses all over the tread, but in one place would be better.

I was also wondering about the ingredients in the bag balm. I know many people say it is safe, but I am a little concerned about the petroleum jelly in there. Isn't that bad stuff? Can anyone clearify?

I used to swear by bag balm for my kid's diaper rash.  I couldn't live without it.  That was years ago before I knew anything natural.  Now, I'm sure there are better alternatives especially since BB has petroleum jelly in it.  I try to be balanced and my feeling is if I had it on hand (and I still do) and my kid had diaper rash, I'd use it before buying anything new.  Mainly because I know that the other 95% of our lives is totally natural.  Life is a balance.  I'd use things up before adding the new, better stuff.

I think it's better than petroleum jelly, though. It's lanolin, which is natural, with an antifungal in it, and then I don't know how much petroleum jelly, maybe someone could find out :).

Found this on ehow:

Mix 3 ounces of olive oil, 3 ounces of coconut oil, 3 ounces of sunflower oil in a medium sized bowl. Blend well.
Add 1 teaspoon of anhydrous lanolin (Available at drug stores)
10 drops of vitamin E oil
4 drops of essential oil of bergamot (Available at health food stores)
Mix Well!
Store in a clean pump-style bottle that is opaque. Light destroys vitamin E.
