Can I Make Vinegar with a Kombucha SCOBY?
« on: November 27, 2006, 08:19:47 AM »
This may be a silly question (or one already asked-couldn't find it)...

Can you make a quality Vinegar using a Kombucha starter?
Has anyone ever done this?

If so, I may start a new thread. I have a feeling the answer is yes. But, I wonder what you would do with the Mother?

I have made apple cider vinegar before. I know that there are different mothers for
ACV and red wine vinegar, so I doubt that you could just use a SCOBY and get typical ACV. I just got my kombucha mother today. It is a little more solid than a vinegar mother... I'd like to see a homemade vinegar thread ;)

In my home remedy book it talks about vinegar, unprocessed vinegar, and the mother that floats on top of it. Another place on the net talked about letting raw apple cider sit out to turn into vinegar. Can you use the mother that grows on top to make kombucha as well?
