Kefir safety?
« on: June 24, 2008, 03:08:34 PM »
Hopefully I didn't just miss it, but I didn't see anything about this. I'm 20 weeks preggo and am thinking about making kefir. I'm wondering if this is safe to start drinking while preggo since I haven't been up till now? Thanks, Brandi

Thanks. I guess I should add the reason I'm asking if it's alright is because I have Candida problems and don't want die off, detox, or whatever you call it since I'm preggo. Thanks, Brandi

I agree - totally safe, Brandi.  It should help your little one have a good start in his/her little digestive tract, too.  Best wishes with your pregnancy!

I have been drinking Kefir some. I go in spells. Sometimes I drink 1/2 cup a day for a few days then I forget or dont feel like it, but my vag**al infections has disappeared and  I havent had any episodes for many many months. Drinking Kefir is sooo worth it!

I have been making kefir d'uva with white grape juice. 2c juice, 1 1/2 c water and 1T grains. Ferment 48 hours. My dh really likes it and usually drinks 3-4 cups per day. He says since drinking it he thinks his food digesest better or easier or something different! Is 3-4 cups per day ok? And somethimes he drinks 1 1/2 c of milk kefir in the same day.
DD's 4 1/2 and 3 1/2 and DS born 7/6/08!

Thanks ladies. I'm going to go ahead and start drinking it then. My mom's been on me for a couple years about how kefir is so good for you. I don't know why I don't listen till my body makes me.  ::) Guess I better head on over to the kefir recipe thread. Brandi

That's good to know...
I made some kefir today for the very first time! I used raw milk with the powder kefir starter. It tasted fine! I expected it to be rotten  ;D I am new to this so I was very skeptical.
I am excited about making more to drink next time. I used it in a recipe so I just tasted a little.
I am definitely going to try to drink it every day=)

My sister and her son have been on kefir.  She's feeling sick, feels like her tonsils are enlarged.  Has a whole head cold feeling.  Her son, Seth, sounds hoarse.
We're wondering if it's related to the kefir.   We've been on it for a week and a half and consuming it twice a day.  Going through definitely a litre of milk per day.
I don't eat as much of as they do, but I'm definitely not experiencing anything.
